The
Yunlin offshore wind farm has suffered another setback with one of its monopiles slipping during installation. The monopiles have diameter up to 10 metres, length up to 98 metres and weight to almost 2000 tonnes.
A spokesperson from wpd, the project's developer, said "the investigation into this is currently underway". They declined to comment any further.

Installation of the foundations is being completed by Abu Dhabi-based company NPCC (National Petroleum Construction Company)
using the DLS-4200. It recently took over following Sapura Energy's decision to terminate its work on the project back in February 2022. The Group’s wholly owned subsidiary Sapura Offshore Sdn Bhd, was awarded the contract in March 2019.

The
Yunlin offshore wind farm is one of the largest offshore wind-related transactions that has been financed in the APAC region, and is located eight kilometres off the Taiwanese west coast in the Taiwan strait. With a total capacity of 640 MW, the project is one of largest offshore wind farms being developed in Taiwan. It is set to feature a maximum of 80 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD turbines.

The project’s original date of completion was scheduled for September 2020 however due to the combination of losing its foundation contractor, construction issues and complications due to Covid-19 it has been delayed significantly. Currently, the project is expedted to reach completion by late 2023, 3 years later than originally scheduled.
