ZITON to support Meerwind blade campaign

ZITON has been selected by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) to overhaul and upgrade all blades at the Meerwind offshore wind farm off the German coast. The campaign is a continuation of a similar project at West of Duddon Sands.

The blades will be upgraded at an onshore factory in the Port of Esbjerg, allowing for vessel access. The Port of Esbjerg has partly been chosen to minimise COVID-19 impacts on the operation.

The engaged vessel spread will include the service jack-up
WIND SERVER and a Service Operation Vessel (SOV) which aims to optimise working windows for the offshore technicians. All technicians both offshore and onshore will be contracted by ZITON.

Preparations are well underway and the campaign will kick off in the near future. It is expected to last 9-12 months, weather depending.

“We see this continuation with Siemens Gamesa as confirmation of our ability to deliver quality in a safe and dependable way and are looking forward to working with a new client under the Siemens Gamesa canopy,”
said ZITON CEO Thorsten Jalk.

The 288 MW
Meerwind offshore wind farm consists of 80 Siemens 3.6 MW wind turbines and was fully commissioned in February 2015. Located in the German Bight of the North Sea, 23 km north of the island of Helgoland, the turbines cover an area of 42 km2, and are situated in depths ranging of 22-26 metres.
