Marine Electricity Transmission Systems Database

Exporting power to shore is a key aspect of offshore wind farm regimes and design. Systems can vary between markets, with responsibility either lying with the Developers or separate entities, such as Transmission System Operators (TSOs), and can form part of a wider coordinated offshore grid network. 4C offshore database includes 357 dedicated platforms, which connect to a single windfarm, as well as 45 shared platforms, including Energy Islands, which connect to more than one offshore wind farm and export power via transmission cables. To date wind farms have predominantly used HVAC but as distance from shore and project capacity grows HVDC is increasing.
