Sud-Atlantique II

27 Jul 2022: Following the public debate, which concluded in February, the government has selected two areas off south Atlantic coast for future tenders. For the first park, the Government will launch a 1 GW (+/- 20%) tender in 2022 with the aim of designating the winner in early 2024 and commissioning in the early 2030s. The park will be located within a 180 km2 area off the island of Oléron, more than 35 km from the coast, beyond the limits of the Marine Nature Park of the Gironde estuary, and in the French EEZ. The preservation of biodiversity is a major issue in the realization of this project and will be a priority throughout its construction and operation. A second park of 1 GW could be located within 250 km2 area further offshore and potentially incorporate floating. The tender is due to be launched at a later date. RTE will seek the best connection solution for these parks through shared HVDC infrastructure. A common denominator of the debate was maximum distance offshore which the state analysed against technical feasibility data. The surface areas of the areas selected for the bidding procedures relating to the two parks will be gradually reduced during the tender process, taking into account technical and environmental studies, and continued public participation.
