17 Dec 2021: The BSH published an update to the Area Development Plan (FEP) in late 2021 to reflect the revised offshore wind targets for 30 GW by 2030 and 40 GW by 2035 and 70 GW by 2045. The FEP identifies priority and reservation areas for offshore wind energy for up to 43 GW, increasing the total identified potential to 57.5 GW. The FEP includes reconfigured designs of areas in Zone 3 and identified new areas in Zones 4 and 5 of the German North Sea as well as 1 GW in the Baltic Sea. In some of these areas, power density has been increased compared to the FEP 2020, up to a maximum of 11 MW/km2, allowing for extra 3 GW across N-9 to N-13. The FEP does not yet include specific tendering and commissioning years. There is uncertainty with regard to the acceleration potential of the network connections. Following consultation, a further draft FEP is expected in mid-2022.
