Health and Safety A fire broke out in the engine room of the wind farm service vessel World Calima whilst it was servicing the Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm. A distress signal was hailed at around 8:20am after the vessels' crew noticed heavy smoke. The fire was controlled with on-board resources by locking the engine room and flooding it with carbon dioxide. Another nearby wind farm service vessel, Windea Two assisted the World Calima, manoeuvring the vessel out of the wind farm to avoid a collision with the turbines. The rescue vessel, HERMANN MARWED arrived at 9.40am to assist. About 15 minutes later, a four-ship NATO naval unit followed. The rescuers determined that German mine-hunting boat Sulzbach-Rosenbergwould stay on the scene to assists with the vessels safe tow to shore. A daughter vessel of the HERMANN MARWEDE transferred the eight wind farm technicians and put them on the sea rescue cruiser. The vessels arrived in Helgoland at 4:45pm and the fire was confirmed to be extinguished.

Other innogy placed the first German corporate Green Bond worth $850m on 13th Oct 2017. innogy’s inaugural Green Bond is an interest-bearing security, whose issue proceeds are used to refinance sustainable projects. The proceeds of innogy´s first Green Bond will be used to refinance four offshore projects in the UK and Germany. Direct communication with innogy confirmed these projects are:
Nordsee Ost (in operation, 295MW, GER, innogy SE share 100%)
Gwynt y Môr (in operation, 576 MW, UK, innogy SE share 50%)
Nordsee One (under construction, 332MW, GER, innogy SE share 15%)
Galloper (under construction, 336MW, UK, innogy SE share 25%)

Other Approval DNV GL awarded innogy SE with the project certificate for its project at the WindEnergy Hamburg exhibition. The certification was carried out according to the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH – Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie) standard, and covers all stages of the project development from design planning to commissioning.

Turbine Just one month following its official inauguration, Nordsee Ost has been temporarily disconnected after a blade broke off one of the Senvion 6.2M126 turbines. The rotor blades are over 60 metres long and built from glass fibre and reinforced plastic, weighing several tonnes each. Half of the turbines were put back into operation following recovery of the blade; the exact cause of the damage is unknown.

Turbine Installation The 48th and final turbine was installed over the Christmas period. The installation project used two installation vessels simultaneously. Total turbine installation activities (excluding the blades) took a total of 20 weeks, one less than expected. 33 turbines were installed by the single blade technique, for the remaining 15 full rotor assembly was undertaken onshore, in which installation activities overran by 12 weeks (32 as opposed to the originally planned 20).
