Prototype was installed at Østerild onshore test centre in Denmark during January 2014. Dong Energy will help Vestas in testing the prototype. September 2013 saw Vestas producing the first prototype 80 meter blade at the R&D centre on the Isle of Wight, UK. December 2013 saw the first nacelle prototype produced at Lindo Industrial Park, Denmark. In a 24hr period between 6-7 October the test turbine produced 192,000 kWh, which is a new record for the largest amount of power generated by a single turbine. The blades will be manufactured on the Isle of Wight, Vestas previously had a facility here that they closed down in 2009. On the 01/04/2015 the turbine was given certification from classification body DNV GL. In 2017 MHI Vestas announced that at specific site conditions the turbine can reach up to 9MW.
