Ørsted Taiwan connects Greater Changhua 1 and 2a to the grid

In a monumental achievement for both Ørsted and Taiwan, all 111 turbines of the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms have been successfully installed and connected to the Taiwanese grid. This milestone signifies the inauguration of Taiwan's most extensive offshore wind endeavour and one of the largest in the entire Asia-Pacific region.

The completion of these wind farms heralds a new era of renewable energy in Taiwan, boasting impressive statistics:

- A capacity of 900 MW, capable of powering one million Taiwanese homes.
- Doubling Taiwan's total installed offshore wind capacity.
- An annual reduction of 1.75 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
- Contributing US$ 16 billion to the Taiwanese economy.
- Generating 1,100 direct jobs and 7,200 indirect jobs.

However, the journey doesn't end here. Construction is ongoing for Greater Changhua 2b and 4, a 920 MW project, underscoring Ørsted's dedication to expanding renewable energy infrastructure. In total, the company is poised to build 7.6 GW of offshore wind and 1.6 GW of onshore renewables worldwide in 2024, marking its most ambitious building year yet.

The inauguration of Greater Changhua 1 and 2a is a momentous occasion, but it also serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat climate change and transition towards sustainable energy sources. As Ørsted continues to spearhead renewable energy projects globally, the impact on both the environment and the economy is poised to be transformative.
