Bibby Marine has sealed a monumental deal with Gondan shipbuilders to construct the globe's inaugural truly zero-emission electric Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (eCSOV).

The eCSOV will take shape at Gondan's Asturias shipyard in Spain and is slated for completion in 2026. Following an extensive selection process involving various shipyards both domestically and internationally, Gondan Shipbuilders emerged as the chosen partner for Bibby Marine due to their exceptional proposal in terms of timeline, budget, and quality. Gondan's established proficiency in crafting custom-built, specialized vessels also played a pivotal role in clinching the deal.

Crafted in collaboration with UK-based ship designers Longitude, the eCSOV will boast a potent battery system complemented by dual-fuel methanol engines to ensure emissions-free operations. This pioneering vessel will be outfitted with top-of-the-line mission equipment, a capacious insulated warehouse, and a climate-controlled electrical store. Crew comfort is prioritized with deluxe accommodation featuring expansive communal areas and cozy cabins. To facilitate zero-emission operations, the eCSOV will integrate high-voltage offshore charging facilities for swift recharging. With the ability to operate solely on battery power for over 16 hours between charges, the vessel is poised for efficient field operations, promising unparalleled fuel efficiency and setting a new benchmark in the industry.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Bibby Marine CEO Nigel Quinn remarked, "This marks an exhilarating milestone for our project, and we are thrilled to have Gondan Shipbuilders on board to materialize our clean vision."
Daniel Scavuzzo, Sales Director of Gondan Shipbuilders, echoed the sentiment, stating, "We are eager to embark on this journey with Bibby Marine, who are spearheading the offshore wind sector's transition to decarbonization."
Jonathan Lewis, CEO of Bibby Line Group, emphasized the company's commitment to long-term investment and environmental stewardship, highlighting the significance of the project in advancing green technology within the maritime sector.

This groundbreaking initiative falls under the Zero Emission Vessels and Infrastructure (ZEVI) scheme, funded by the UK Department for Transport (DfT) and executed by Innovate UK. ZEVI forms part of the Department's UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) program, a £206 million endeavor aimed at fostering the technology needed to decarbonize the UK's domestic maritime sector.
