Resolution reached in Esbjerg port industrial dispute

An impasse that had halted the departure of the installation ship, Seaway Ventus, from Esbjerg port has been resolved, announced a spokesperson for Seaway7.

The vessel, slated for use in Ørsted's Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 1 parks, had been immobilised since Friday 19 April due to a blockade staged by dock workers. The dispute centred around the absence of a collective agreement for the sailors aboard the ship, a matter attributed to Ørsted by port workers.

Brian Reichle, representing the dock workers, underscored the significance of a collective agreement in ensuring fair labour practices, stating, "It is the only way in which the work can be resumed," highlighting prior warnings issued to Ørsted over a month ago.

In a recent development, a spokesperson for Seaway7 reached out with an update, stating, "In relation to the industrial action at the port of Esbjerg and following discussions between all parties, we have reached a satisfactory way forward for the project."

Seaway Ventus, a self-propelled jack-up installation vessel, boasts an environmentally conscious design, utilising an electrical distribution system to reduce carbon intensity during operations. With the resolution of the dispute, attention now turns to the resumption of operations at the port and the continued progress of Ørsted's renewable energy projects.
