A2SEA prepping SEA INSTALLER for Race Bank

A2SEAA2SEA's SEA INSTALLER has been outfitted with four massive adapter rings in preparation for its work at the Race Bank offshore wind farm. The four rings will be used as tower sea fastening on board.

The four adapter rings were shipped from Valmont SM's facility in Rødekro and travelled some 180km to the harbour of Hvide Sande. It took four large trucks and escort cars to ship the adapter rings to Hvide Sande and due to the size of the rings, several roads were completely closed for the trucks to navigate the narrow roads of Western Jutland.

Upon arrival, the four adapter rings were lifted on board the vessel and secured to the deck foundations with bolts. The vessel is scheduled to transition to Newcastle later this week for mobilisation activities.

When the vessel arrives in Newcastle, the adapter rings will be bolted ready to carry out turbine installation at the Race Bank offshore wind farm. The vessel will install four turbines at a time and is expected to start work at the end of April.

The 573MW Race Bank project is located nearly 17 miles off the North Norfolk coast and will cover an area of approximately 29 square miles. It will consist of 91 Siemens SWT-6.0-154 wind turbines, each with a 6MW capacity and stand at 177m tall.

Seaway Heavy Lifting's Oleg Strashnov  is currently on site at the wind farm installing the second offshore substation. The structure consists of a topside and jacket foundation and was built by Iemants and Engie Fabricom. The first substation was installed by the same vessel in August 2016.
