DONG Energy are set to remove the blades from the 91 2.3MW turbines installed at Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm, once removed they will be repaired and upgraded to then be reinstalled.

The blades will be taken back 31km to shore where they will undergo their upgrades/repairs, it is said that repairs are due to erosion based around the edge of the blades. Each blade will endure close inspection to see if the erosion has taken place due to the salty water and sand blown off the beaches.

The upgrades taking place will adjust the turbines to a power curve 4 which in turn will give the turbines a production boost of around 1 - 1.5%.

All refit work will be carried out in Esbjerg and will start May 2015 and is predicted to finish in mid summer 2016.
