Community invited to discuss Californian offshore wind project

Trident wind has decided to host a Public Information Session in which the public can learn about Trident's offshore wind project. Discussions will centre around how the project could help the State tap into this new renewable energy source, boost Morro Bay's economy, and address potential environmental impacts.

The session will also address how the state of California can meet its renewable energy requirements.

In 2015, Trident Winds approached the City regarding the off-shore wind energy project, seeking cooperation on potential re-use of the outfall. The project would involve the placement of 100 floating wind turbines approximately 20 miles off shore and would use the City-owned outfall to connect to the electric grid at the PG&E substation.

Nothing has been permitted to date and the project is still in the initial planning and outreach phases. A Memorandum of Cooperation has been executed following the approval by the City Council on October 13, 2015, outlining the potential use of the outfall and requests from the City for Trident Winds to engage in significant public outreach on the project.

This project will likely be years in the making.

Trident Winds is offering this public information session as an early opportunity for the public to learn about the wind farm and offer feedback. Once commenced, the formal permitting processes will provide extensive, detailed information and commenting opportunities.
