Sormec, manufacturer of hydraulic lifting systems, has been awarded a contract to supply a new topside offshore telescopic crane for the the Dudgeon offshore wind farm.

In December 2015, representatives of Sembmarine SLP (SLP), Statoil and Siemens visited Sormec’s head office, located in Italy, to award a kick off meeting for a new offshore telescopic crane M500/3S.

Certified by LRS and designed according EN 13852:1 norms, the crane will have an Safe Weight Load of 5 tons at 21m and can operate in 2m of significant wave high.  The crane is equipped with AOPS, MOPS, CT special features and man riding function.

Sormec stated that the topside crane is scheduled for delivery in June this year, 2 months before SLP's scheduled 'sail-away' for the 1800 ton substation and 1500 ton jacket.

The substation, which is currently under construction at SLP's yard in Lowestoft (next door to 4C Offshore), is due to be installed off the east coast this year. The substation will be installed at the centre off the wind farm located approximately 32km North of Cromer, off the North Norfolk coast (UK).

Sembmarine SLP was awarded the EPC contract for the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm’s substation platform in September 2014 by Siemens Transmission & Distribution Limited.

The 402MW Dudgeon array will cover a  55 km²  area of sea with its 67 Siemens SWT-6.0-154 offshore wind turbines. The project saw it's Final Investment decision in July 2014 with onshore work kicking off in March the following year. The project is expected to be generating power in Q1 2017 with full commissioning no later than December 2017.

The wind farm’s developer is Dudgeon Offshore Wind Limited, a joint venture between Norwegian Energy firms Statoil and Statkraft, and Abu Dhabi based renewable energy company, Masdar.
