SwancorThe European Commission (EC) has approved the acquisition of joint control over Formosa 1 International Investment Co., Ltd. by DONG Energy and Macquarie alongside Swancor. Formosa 1 International Investment Co., Ltd is the project company behind the Formosa 1 offshore wind farm.

The Commission concluded that the proposed transaction would raise no competition concerns as the geographical area where the wind farm will operate is in Taiwan. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

The acquisition announcement was made in January and if completed, subject to approval from the Taiwanese authorities, DONG Energy and Macquarie will hold a 85% stake in the project leaving original owner and developer Swancor with a 15% stake.

The first phase of the Formosa 1 offshore wind farm is located off the coast of Miaoli and consists of two SWT4.0-120 turbines turbines which were installed in October 2016.

Phase Two of the Formosa project consists of the installation of a further 30 turbines giving an overall capacity of 120MW and is expected to enter construction as early as 2018.
