EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW) has confirmed that its supervisory board has made the final investment decision for the Albatros offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. Located 105 km off the coast in the south-east North Sea, the wind farm will have a capacity of 112MW and consist of 16 Siemens SWT-7.0-154 turbines.

EnBW acquired the Albatros offshore wind project in December 2014 and it is located nearby another offshore wind project it is developing, EnBW Hohe See. EnBW explained that the close proximity will provide the opportunity for synergies in the development and operational phases of each project. Both projects are scheduled to go into operation in 2019, adding a total of 609MW to the company's portfolio, and provide enough electricity to meed the demands of 710,000 households.

EnBW was recently awarded connection capacity for the He Dreiht offshore wind farm. The connection capacity was awarded as part of the first capacity auction the German Government is hosting for offshore wind farms in the North and Baltic Sea.

EnBW submitted a bid for a the construction of the wind farm with a capacity of up to 900MW and without subsidy support under the country's Renewable Energy Act (EEG).  Grid capacity was awarded for the year 2025 and EnBW confirmed that it will continue with the development of the project up until this time.
