First US wind farm starts construction

This morning on Twitter the CEO of Deepwater Wind announced that Block Island the very first wind farm in the US has started construction.

The tweet released by 'Jeff Grybowski' the CEO of Deepwater Wind, wrote 'Heading offshore - ready to build! #BlockIslandWindFarm'

The 5 foundations are planned to be installed three miles off the coast of Block Island and are expected to take 8 weeks to install.

Due to whales migrating, the export cable will not be complete until late 2015.

The turbine installation will be carried out by 'Bold Tern' and is scheduled to begin later summer 2016. The contract has been agreed for 65 days with a 48 day extension if needed.
