Climate and Energy Minister has given its investment approval for the plant, which Energinet.dk should behave to connect future offshore wind turbines at Kriegers Flak in the Baltic Sea with the onshore grid.

With the approval,  Energinet.dk may enter into contracts consisting of approximately 200 km Offshore and Onshore cables, two offshore substations, a new onshore substation and extensions to existing substations.

The facility, which the 220 kilovolt AC layouts and is budgeted at 3.5 billion. kr.(Euro 470,449,643)
It must be ready to receive power from the first offshore wind turbine by the end of 2018.

Back in March 2012 the Danish Government signed together with the Liberals, the Conservatives, Danish People's Party and the Unity List an energy agreement whereby  among other things, there was to be built 600 MW offshore wind turbines at Kriegers Flak. These should produce electricity equivalent to approximately 600,000 households.

Why Kriegers Flak?

The Danish part of Kriegers Flak is a 180 km2 area in the Baltic Sea. The area was identified by the DEA's (Danish energy Agency) offshore wind programme in 2010 as one of the most attractive locations for a future Danish offshore wind farm.

The special feature of the maritime area Kriegers Flak is that Sweden and Germany have designated their territorial areas for offshore wind, which could lead to an estimated total of up to 1,600 MW of offshore wind turbines.

Energinet.dk's tasks

It is Energinet.dk's job to build and operate the transmission plant and infrastructure which brings power from offshore wind turbines into the main electricity grid on land.  Nettilslutningsanlægget must be ready to transmit electricity from offshore wind turbines 31 January 2018.

In order that the wind farm can be established with the least possible risk for future clients and to achieve the lowest possible price, Energinet.dk will also conduct feasibility studies (EIA and relevant seabed surveys, etc.).

Energinet.dk's grid connection of Kriegers Flak is budgeted at 3.5 billion. kr.
