SEA CHALLENGER achieved an important milestone on 27 January 2015 as turbine no. 18 was installed on DONG Energy’s Westermost Rough project in the UK.

“The
installation of turbine no. 18 went according to plan, safely and smooth. The co-operation between the crew on board SEA CHALLENGER and the installation teams from Siemens Wind Power and DONG Energy is working very well. From the project team, we are very satisfied,” said Project Manager Morten S. Pedersen from A2SEA.

SEA CHALLENGER will continue to install the remaining 17 turbines on the 210MW offshore wind farm located 8km off the Yorkshire Coast, north of Hull and approximately 25km north of Spurn Head at the river Humber estuary. When finished, the offshore wind farm will be able to provide electricity to power around 200,000 homes.

Westermost Rough

Westermost Rough is 50% owned by DONG Energy, and 50% owned by Marubeni and UK Green Investment Bank who each have a 25% ownership share.

Westermost Rough consists of 35 6MW Siemens 6.0 turbines, the project is 8km from shore and grid connection to the shore will be made at Salt End. The project is expected to be fully commissioned June 2015.
