Beatrice Offshore Windfarm LtdSiemens Transmission and Distribution Ltd. (STDL) is carrying out commissioning works on the first Offshore Transformer Module (OTM1) for the Beatrice offshore wind farm in preparation for the energisation of the system.

The first OTM for
Beatrice offshore wind farm was installed earlier this year. The OTM was designed by Siemens who claim that the structure is one third smaller in size and weight compared to a conventional alternating-current platform and can yield up to 40% lower costs.

Nexans Norway AS are also on site carrying out routing, jointing and termination works on the two export cables EC1 and EC3 that have both been pulled into the OTM.

Located in the Moray Firth, the
Beatrice project will be Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm, comprising of 84 Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 turbines. The 588MW capacity array is expected to be capable of generating enough electricity to power approximately 450,000 homes. First power is currently scheduled for July 2018 with commissioning expected to follow in 2019.
