Swire Blue Ocean A/S has announced that it has signed a key contract with Siemens Plc. to provide a wind farm installation vessel for the installation of all fifty six 6MW Siemens turbines on the Galloper Offshore Wind Farm. Details are still sketchy as to which vessel will be used, however the Windfarm Installation Vessels (WIVs) Pacific Orca & Pacific Osprey  are of similar specification and capability.

This follows last months announcement that Financial close had been reached after RWE Innogy acquired three new project partners, UK Green Investment Bank (GIB), Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital, who had all joined RWE Innogy in becoming 25% joint equity partners of the Galloper Offshore wind project.

As part of the overall partnership agreement, Siemens will oversee the Swire Blue Ocean Installation vessel.   and once all installed and generating will deliver a 15 year maintenance contract. Siemens is due to start installing the 56 SWT-6.0-154 wind turbines for the Galloper project in May 2017. Siemens stated today that it has sold 300 of its SWT-6.0-15 turbines to German and UK projects.

The wind power plant is scheduled to be fully operational by March 2018. Prompt completion is necessary so that the offshore project will qualify for remuneration with ROC (Renewable Obligations Certificates) of the 2.5 round for public tenders.  The project’s go ahead is set to create around 700 jobs during construction and around 90 jobs once operational.

When completed, the 336MW Galloper Offshore wind project.  will provide power to approx. 336,000 households. TheGalloper Offshore Wind Farm will be built off the coast of Suffolk in the UK. Turbine installation activity is set to commence in April 2017.
