Natural Energy Wyre are planning to build a new tidal barrage spread across the River Wyre, once/if completed the project will generate around 150GWhr of electricity each and every year.

The planned site is located on the Lancashire coast, between the industrial town of Fleetwood to the west, and the small rural village of Knott End to the east. This specific site is positively unique–encompassing ideal geophysical and geological features, close proximity to a substantial National Grid connection and some of the largest tidal ranges in the country.

“We need more clean and home-grown sources of energy, which will help to reduce our reliance on foreign fossil fuels,”
Lord Bourne, Energy Minister, has said, “Low carbon energy projects like the tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay could bring investment, support local jobs and help contribute to the Welsh economy and Swansea area.”

Backing from the government at large, as well as the Department of Energy and Climate Change directly is extremely promising, with benefits to Welsh economy and employment, as well as placing Swansea firmly on the global map when it comes to green energy.

Natural Energy Wyre will be working with Andritz Hydro, DECC, RSPB and National grid along with many others.
