Tidal Transit begins Westermost Rough charter

Tidal Transit has commenced a charter with Ørsted at the Westermost Rough offshore wind farm. Two of the company's Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs), Ginny Louise and Eden Rose , have been deployed to fulfil the charter.

The charter, which commenced on 27th January, will see the two CTVs supporting the project until at least March 2020. Working from Ørsted's operations and maintenance base in Grimsby, the CTVs will support the operation and maintenance of the 35 turbine array located 8km off the Yorkshire coast, north of Hull.

Tidal Transit's Commercial Director Leo Hambro commented on the charter: "Westermost Rough is a site we know well, having previously worked there for Siemens and 3Sun during both the construction and early operation stages of the wind farm's development. We are thrilled to have been now been awarded this long-term contract from the operator, Ørsted, cementing our position within their East Coast Hub."

Westermost Rough was originally awarded to Total in 2003 during the initial Round 2 wind farm tendering process. After Total withdrew and the concession was returned to the Crown Estate, Ørsted (formerly Dong Energy) was awarded the lease to the site.

Offshore construction began early 2014 and the project generated its first power in September 2014 with full power output achieved in May 2015. The plant’s 35 Siemens 6MW wind turbines give the project a total capacity of 210MW and it provides clean renewable energy to more than 150,000 UK households annually.

Tidal Transit is a Norfolk based company which has been operating purpose-designed CTVs in the offshore wind industry since 2011. Its fleet of four vessels have previously been chartered on the Dogger Bank, Greater Gabbard, Gwynt y Môr and Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farms.
