11th March 2015 commenced the start of construction for the 144MW project Westermeerwind, it started with the ramming and piling of the first 48 foundations at Ijsselmeer.

Last Saturday (6th March 2015) saw the loading of a 11350 Liebherr crane owned by Van Oord/ Mammoet onto the pontoon 'De Schelde. The foundations were then transported from Vlissingen to the project site, 500m from the Noordermeer Dijk.

The foundation piles are steel tubes of about 35 meters long and weigh about 250 tonnes, with a diameter of 5 meters. Depending on the weather it is scheduled for a pile a day to be driven into the seabed, the work is carried out over 6 days during the week and it takes two to three hours to install a foundation.

The electrical cable burial is expected to take place in May 2015, once completed, the towers will be installed onto the foundations and Finally the nacelles and blades. This will take up a large part of summer, first power is expected for around late July / Early august.
