Windar Renovables and Idesa are jointly constructing transition pieces for the Merkur offshore wind farm on behalf of principle contractor GeoSea, a DEME Group subsidiary.

The two companies are supplying a total of 66 transition pieces, each with a diameter of 6.7m and weighing 260tn. Delivery is expected to begin by August in time for foundation installation by GeoSea.

On the 12th August 2016, project developers Merkur Offshore GmbH confirmed the Financial Close of the Merkur offshore wind farm which will cover a 47 kmĀ². The project will have a 396MW capacity and the site is located approximately 45km north of the Borkum island in the North Sea. The array will consist of 66 Haliade 150-6MW turbines which will be supplied by GE Renewable Energy and installed at the site by GeoSea.

Competition is scheduled for the end of 2019 and is expected to provide renewable energy to around 500,000 households annually.

Last week Prysmian announced that it had secured a contract for the design, engineering, manufacturing, testing and supply of approximately 90 km of 33 kV submarine inter-array cables and related accessories for the project.
