India has 54 offshore wind farm projects of which none currently operating, none where construction has progressed enough to connect the turbines and generate electricity, none are in the build phase, and none are either consented or have applied for consent. on project 'Zone B3' on Friday, 01 March 2024, the following was announced: 'Update 17/08/2023:
According to the August 2023 revision of the Strategy for Establishment of Offshore Wind Energy Projects, the MNRE (or designated agency) will float a bid for 0.5 GW capacity off the coast of Gujarat (Zone B3 - IN15). This site (Zone B3) will be auctioned under Model-A, as part of Phase I.

Update 01/06/23:
This tender is proposed to be auctioned off under Model-1 and is expected by end-2023 or early 2024, as per the auction trajectory for offshore wind given under the MNRE strategy paper. However, 4C forecast that this auction is unlikely to go ahead as per the auction trajectory due to India’s track record of delays and pushbacks. 4C anticipate the tender to occur mid to end of 2024 based on India’s slow progress to date and precedent of extended timelines in emerging markets.

Update 14/05/20: The tender is further delayed.
Update 23/11/2019: First tender postponed to March 2020; NIWE expresses need to complete environmental, geophysical and geotechnical assessments correctly before project can be tendered. NIWE recommends 4x250 MW, 2 x 500 MW or 1 x 1 GW tender.

Update (24/06/19): The expectation is that the 1 GW Gujarat tender will be out around October/November, however further delays are anticipated.

Update: tender process delayed and pushed back to 2019. A general election is to be held April-May 2019 but MNRE intend to still put out a tender during late Q1. As of May 2019 there is still no announcement,
