Acta Marine SOV completes sea trials

Acta MarineActa Marine’s newbuild Service Operations Vessel (SOV) Acta Auriga has completed sea trials. The vessel has now returned to Norwegian shipyard Ulstein Verft for completion before her delivery to Acta Marine.

The vessel, of Ulstein’s SX195 design, has been chartered by Ocean Breeze Energy GmbH to perform logistical support for OBE’s maintenance activities on the
BARD Offshore 1 wind farm project for a period of two years.

Acta Auriga  is equipped with Ulstein's X-BOW & X-STERN design. According to Ulstein, the X-BOW  aids sea keeping by splitting the wave energy. This means, the vessel will be able to keep up speed with no slamming and fewer vibrations. X-STERN is utilised when Dynamically Positioned (DP) at a wind turbine or an offshore platform. With the X-STERN positioned towards the weather, the vessels shape eliminates slamming and enables the vessel to stay positioned with lower thruster load, and with reduced fuel consumption as a result, according to Ulstein.

The DP2 offshore support vessel is equipped with SMST motion compensated gangway with integrated elevator and crane functionality. Measuring 93m in length and 18m wide, it has been designed to provide walk-to-work transfer of personnel and cargo in significant wave heights up to 3m. It can accommodate up to 120 persons.

Acta Marine has ordered a second vessel from Ulstein Verft of similar design. It too is targeted for construction and maintenance activities in the offshore wind sector. The vessel is scheduled for delivery Q2 2019.
