Fred. Olsen to transport and install Borkum Riffgrund 2 turbines

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has secured a contract for the transportation and installation of 56 MHI Vestas V164 turbines, each with an 8MW capacity, destined for the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm.

The Borkum Riffgrund 2 project is located 57km from shore in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and installation is set to commence in the second quarter of 2018. The project will have an overall capacity of 450MW and is expected to meet the power demands of 460,000 homes annually once completed.

“This is our second contract signed with DONG Energy and our first project installing the 8MW turbines, it is an exciting project and one we are pleased to have won,” said Even Larsen, Head of Commercial and Projects.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier recently upgraded Brave Tern to be able to handle the coming ‘multi MW’ turbines. Sister vessel Bold Tern is currently undergoing the same modifications with completion in July.
