SeaRenergy completes Veja Mate work

SeaRenergy has completed a two year construction site safety contract for the Veja Mate wind farm. The service agreement started in early 2016 and included provision, installation, maintenance, as well as the recovery of five cardinal marker buoys and three mooring buoys.

The cardinal marker buoys were required to mark the outside boundaries of the construction site. The design features of the five buoys, model Sealite Trident 2600, allowed stowing and transport in an upright position. This resulted in safer and easier handling and less space needed on the service vessel and in the harbour.

Permanent control of the buoys was possible through integrated submittal of data via satellite regarding geographical position, battery voltage, and other operational parameters. Maintenance campaigns were scheduled and conducted twice a year.

The €1.9bn (approx. £1.7bn) Veja Mate project is located in the German waters of the North Sea, Northwest of the island of Borkum. The project is owned by Highland Group Holdings Ltd, Siemens Financial Services and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

It will export power to the transmission grid via the BorWin2 converter station and was connected to the platform mid December 2016. The project is anticipated to generate 1.6TWh of electricity annually, enough for 400,000 German homes.
