China kicks off wind farm construction

Construction of the 300MW Huaneng Rudong offshore wind farm has kicked off in the East China Sea. Six of the eight piles required to complete the first high-rise pile cap foundation have been placed. The project will comprise of both high-rise pile cap and monopile foundations.

The Huaneng Rudong project is located off the coast off Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. It is expected that the project will generate nearly 740 million kWh of energy annually. Developers recently confirmed that the wind farm will comprise of a total of 70 turbines: 38 Shanghai Electric 4MW, 12 Vision 4.2MW and 20 Haizhuang 5MW units.

It is expected that there is 5.3bn Yuan (EUR 709m or GBP 563m) behind the project which is being developed by state owned China Huaneng Group. It is expected that the project will be fully commissioned by the end of 2017.

Last month, the Sichuan Electric Power Construction Company was awarded a turnkey Engineering Procurement Construction and Installation (EPCI) contract for the offshore substation associated with the project.
