Ulstein launches second SOV for Siemens service

Ulstein, Norway based shipbuilder, has launched another Service Operations Vessel (SOV) for Bernhard Schulte Offshore (BS Offshore). The vessel has been chartered by Siemens Wind Power Service to support the service and maintenance of the Sandbank and Dan Tysk offshore wind farms.

The vessel, dubbed Windea TBN until it is named, will provide accommodation for technicians and safely transport them to and from wind turbines using a walk to work access system.

Now that the vessel has been launched from the dock hall, it will undergo finishing touches before going on sea trials before the end of the year.

The vessel is the second Ulstein will deliver to BS Offshore under charter by Siemens. Back in September, the Windea La Cour commenced work at the 600MW Gemini wind farm in the Netherlands. The vessel has been chartered by Siemens Wind Power Service to support the ongoing service and maintenance of 150 Siemens 4MW wind turbines at the project located in the North Sea.

The Sandbank offshore wind farm is part of the Vattenfall Sylt-Esbjerg-Cluster, located in German-Danish territorial waters. The project will include a total of 72 Siemens SWT-4.0-130 wind turbines and is expected to come online in 2017.

DanTysk was inaugurated on 30 April 2015 and consists of 80 Siemens SWT-3.6-120 wind turbines. It supplies up to 400,000 households annually.

Both projects are owned by Vattenfall (51%) and Stadtwerke München (49%).
