ElecLink successfully completed the first phase of transmission tests on Friday 1^st October 2021. Tests started in the last week of August and lasted for approximately 5 weeks. The 1 GW project is ready for full operations now.

ElecLink’s integration with the Channel Tunnel Systems was carefully verified during a series of in-depth tests. Electricity power has been transferred from 100 to 1,000 MW, with and without test trains, involving all stakeholders using the system in the future.

Cable installation for 320 kV ElecLink was carried out in Q2-2021. The 51 km cable between UK and France was manufactured by Prysmians and installed by Balfour Beatty. The ~€570 million project has a unique design, rather than sea or land, the cable has run through the Channel Tunnel, which is 50 km railway tunnel that connects Folkestone (UK) with Coquelles (FR) beneath the English Channel.
