ASCO, a global company in logistics and materials management, has been awarded a significant contract to offer a suite of services at Teesworks, the largest freeport in the UK, located in North East England. The initial three year contract will enhance ASCO's presence in new energy markets globally.

ASCO's responsibilities will include quayside planning, operations coordination, vessel scheduling, stevedoring, and internal distribution services. The focus will be on Teesworks' South Bank Heavy Lift Quay, featuring a new 450 metre quay for the offshore energy sector.

The Aberdeen based company was chosen for its proven track record in the energy industry and comprehensive service offerings. ASCO will commence operations in summer 2024, with the first vessel expected to dock in September 2024. This project is anticipated to create up to 65 direct local jobs and hundreds of indirect jobs, supporting regional employment and the local supply chain.

Teesworks, envisioned as an integrated energy hub, will feature new energy projects such as hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), and offshore wind, including monopile manufacturing by SeAH Wind.

ASCO CEO, Mike Pettigrew, stated, "The South Bank Quay project is a flagship endeavor for ASCO, marking a pivotal start to 2024 and underscoring our commitment to expanding in the new energies sector."

Garry O'Malley, operations director at Teesworks, added, "We are thrilled to award this contract to ASCO, whose extensive experience in port and terminal operations will ensure top-notch service levels for our users. This partnership is a critical milestone in Teesworks' transition to greener energy and will create significant employment opportunities in the area."

This contract reflects ASCO's strategy to leverage its expertise in oil, gas, and wider energy industries to expand its footprint in new energy markets worldwide, driving economic growth and contributing to the development of sustainable energy infrastructure.
