Atlas Copco nets two North Sea jobs

MHI Vestas has named Atlas Copco Rental Denmark its preferred supplier for temporary power solutions at two North Sea offshore wind farms.

The company announced on Thursday that it had been contracted to provide solutions for the 950 MW Moray East and the 857 MW Triton Knoll. The former will consist of 100 of MHI Vestas’ V164-95 turbines, while Triton Knoll will feature 90 of the same model.

Michael Nøhr-Petersen, Country Manager at Atlas Copco Rental, said the company was “proud to have been selected” and remarked that the generators would “head out to sea” in Q1 2021.

The 950 MW
Moray East project is being developed by Moray Offshore Windfarm East Ltd (MOWEL), a joint venture company owned by Diamond Green Limited (33.4%), EDPR (33.3 %), ENGIE (23.3%) and CTG (10%). It is located around 22km from the coast in the Moray Firth, Scotland. The project secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) at £57.50/MWh from the UK Government in 2017, and is due to start generating power in 2021. Construction on the project started in Winter 2018, with commencement of the onshore works and the wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2022.

Triton Knoll was also awarded a CfD in September 2017. A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Ørsted, under which the company will offtake 100% of the power produced by the wind farm, complements Triton Knoll’s CfD, mitigating any market price uncertainty for the first 15 years of the wind farm’s operation.
