The BorWin3 offshore converter platform has been loaded onto a transportation vessel and has departed for the project site 130km off the coast of Germany.

BorWin3
is a 900MW Direct Current grid connection system being built by the Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT. It will convert three-phase electric power generated by offshore wind farms into Direct Current and transmit it back to shore.

Construction of the platform took place in Drydocks World, Dubai. Petrofac, in consortium with Siemens, were awarded the
BorWin3 offshore grid connection project contract in 2014 by TenneT. Installation of the jacket took place in May 2018.

Once completed, scheduled for 2019, the
BorWin3 project will provide connection for the 500MW Hohe See offshore wind project farm which is currently under construction off the German coast.

BorWin3 is one of the 13 offshore grid connection projects that TenneT has planned, providing approximately 4,300MW of connection capacity.
