Caley Ocean Systems, part of Pryme Group, has been awarded a contract to design, supply and commission an 8,000 tonne capacity, deck mounted cable carousel system for DEME’s high-tech cable installation vessel, the
Viking Neptun

The new carousel will further increase the vessels cable handling capacity adding to the current below deck system and features a hydraulics-free loading arm, and integrated variable speed control system. The system will be designed and manufactured at Caley’s Glasgow-based facilities in Govan and Renfrew respectively before being delivered to DEME.
Philip Scheers, Business Unit Director at DEME Offshore, said:
“We are committed to the future demands of our clients and to providing the best service for as the offshore wind industry expands into new areas. Our new cable carousel system will be central to the Viking Neptun’s future competitiveness in the fast-growing fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind sectors and we look forward to working with the Caley team again.”
Simon Wain, Managing Director of Caley Ocean Systems, said:
“We are delighted to have secured this contact with DEME, which showcases Pryme Group’s contribution to the energy transition. This contract also builds on our recent partnership with DEME which saw the successful deployment of our Pile Fixation Tool on the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project.”
The
145 m long
Viking Neptun
currently has a turntable capable of handling 4,500 tonnes of cables below deck
.
It joined the DEME Group Fleet in Q2 2022 previously having operated by Norwegian shipping company Eidesvik.
