Corio Generation and Morwind join forces for floating wind in the Celtic Sea

Corio Generation and Morwind, a specialist wind developer based in South-west England, are partnering to compete for floating offshore wind rights in the UK’s Celtic Sea.

The Celtic Sea is a large maritime area off South-west England and Wales, facing the Atlantic Ocean, that has been identified by seabed owner the Crown Estate as a potential source of offshore wind energy.

In November 2021, the Crown Estate published initial proposals for floating wind seabed leasing, with projects in English and Welsh waters expected to be delivered during the early 2030s. Rights could be agreed with developers as early as 2023.

Corio is a portfolio company of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group that is operating on a standalone basis. Launched in April 2022, Corio claims to have a portfolio of over 20 GW, including projects in England and Scotland. Last week it announced it has joined forces with JERA to enter the next offshore wind auction round, slated for the third quarter of 2022.

Morwind is a floating offshore wind energy developer based in the UK’s South-west. It was incorporated in 2020 as a regionally-focused develope.
