The offshore wind industry faces a potential setback as authorities announce delays of up to two years for multiple offshore grid connection systems in the German North Sea. The warning raises concerns about meeting legally agreed-upon expansion goals and introduces an element of uncertainty into the entire value chain, warns Stefan Thimm, Managing Director of BWO.

Thimm emphasizes the need for a thorough analysis of the warnings, stating, "Should this situation be confirmed or even worsen, it will call into question the legally agreed expansion goals and send a signal of uncertainty into the value chain."

Highlighting the existing challenges in offshore wind energy expansion, Thimm points to limiting factors such as production capacities, ports, ships, and a shortage of skilled workers. He urges the implementation of industrial policy measures to address these bottlenecks and stresses the necessity of a comprehensive offshore wind energy strategy. This strategy, in addition to addressing energy industry issues, should encompass the supply chain, ports, and other vital infrastructure. Thimm emphasizes the industry's willingness to actively contribute to the development of such a strategy.
