Dock workers block installation ship bound for Ørsted parks

An installation ship slated for use on Ørsted's Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 1 parks is currently grounded in Esbjerg port, as dock workers stage a blockade against its departure. Since Friday, the ship Seaway Ventus has been immobilised due to the actions of the workers.

The Danish Offshore Industry, represented by DOI.dk, reports that the blockade stems from the absence of a collective agreement for the sailors aboard the vessel. According to port workers, this lack of agreement is attributed to Ørsted, the company employing the shipping company in question.

Brian Reichle, a spokesperson for the dock workers, emphasized the importance of a collective agreement in ensuring fair labor practices. "It is an old agreement between the dock workers and the sailors that there must be a collective agreement on the ships that come here to Esbjerg. It is the only way in which the work can be resumed," Reichle stated to DOI.dk, highlighting prior warnings issued to Ørsted regarding the matter over a month ago.

Seaway Ventus is a large self-propelled jack-up installation vessel designed to install offshore wind turbines and monopile foundations. Seaway Ventus utilises an electrical distribution system for the thrusters, main crane, energy storage system, and the option for a shore connection, to reduce the carbon intensity of its operations.
