EDS HV Group (EDS), part of James Fisher and Sons plc, has completed on-load tap changer (OLTC) maintenance work on EDF Renewable’s (EDFR) 66kV/33kV generator transformers at
Teesside offshore wind farm.

EDS are responsible for the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the High Voltage (HV) network at the wind farm which is under the remit of the EDS’s 24/7 Control Centre. The requirement for the tap changer maintenance was identified as part EDS’s planned preventative maintenance programme for the HV network.

Ryan Murphy, EDS’s Asset Manager said: “Our planned preventative maintenance programme for the generator transformers at Teesside indicated that the condition of the oil within the tap changer compartments was deteriorating.  EDF-R, recognising the criticality of their transformers were very proactive in bringing us in to carry out this work.”

The Teesside offshore wind farm, also known as Redcar wind farm, is located off the North East Coast at Coatham Sands near Redcar in Cleveland and has been operational since 2013, It has an overall capacity of 62.1 MW and comprises of 27 Siemens 2.3MW turbines and was completed in June 2013. The project was developed and is wholly owned by EDF Energy Renewables.
