EGS Group to survey Ocean Wind

EGS Group has been awarded a contract to execute a geophysical survey of Ørsted’s
Ocean Wind offshore wind farm, located approximately 15 miles off the coast of Atlantic City, New Jersey in the United States. The survey work, aimed at providing high-resolution geophysical data, will cover different areas of the wind farm.

EGS will deploy a 50m survey vessel,
MV Neptune, equipped with a geophysical equipment, including a hull mounted, dual head/dual swath Kongsberg 2040C MBES system as well as an Innomar SES2000 Parametric SBP and a Geo-Source sparker system.

Ocean Wind is an 1,100MW offshore wind project which has the potential to supply more than a million New Jersey homes with clean power from its location 15 miles off the coast of Atlantic City.  Subject to permitting and final investment decision, the project is expected to be commissioned in 2024.

Back in September GE Renewable Energy was named preferred turbine supplier for two of Ørsted's US offshore wind farms;
Ocean Wind and the 120 MW Skipjack project off the coast of Maryland. The Haliade-X turbine features 107 metre long blades, which GE claims will enable generation of up to 67 GWh in gross annual energy. GE estimates that this could power 16,000 European households and save 24 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Ørsted is one of the biggest operators of offshore wind farms and aims to have installed a total offshore wind capacity of 15 GW worldwide by 2025.
The company employs 6,300 people and in 2018, the group’s revenue was DKK 76.9 billion ($11.27 billion).

In the US, Ørsted has been awarded the rights to build offshore wind farms to serve the markets of Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, New York, and Connecticut. These wind farms will have a total capacity of approx 2.9GW and will be commissioned by 2024.
