HOM & Cairn Risk sign MoU to Japanese offshore wind market

Horizon Ocean Management (HOM), a joint venture between Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Hokutaku Ltd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cairn Risk to provide comprehensive inspection and maintenance services for the Japanese offshore wind market.

This strategic partnership aims to support the rapidly upscaling Japanese offshore wind sector by analyzing the market and developing a better understanding of in-country demand, as well as implementing asset integrity programs to support the maintenance of critical infrastructure.  

The MoU signifies a significant step towards the realization of an eco-friendly society through the contribution to the offshore wind power industry. HOM, established in April 2021, specializes in the inspection and maintenance of offshore wind power generation facilities in Japan.

The joint venture leverages the wind power facility maintenance expertise developed by Hokutaku and the Mitsui group, as well as Mitsui's customer base in Japan, to provide Japanese wind power generation companies with essential services for wind power equipment ranging from turbines to foundation structures.  

Sally Lockwood, who facilitated the introduction, and Scottish Renewables, who hosted the meeting, have been acknowledged for their roles in bringing together these key players in the offshore wind industry. The collaboration between HOM and Cairn Risk is expected to introduce established and emerging technologies that help capture, interpret, and present key infrastructure performance against design criteria, ensuring operational uptime with overall economic benefit to customers.  

This collaboration is a testament to the wealth of marine and subsea experience available in the European offshore wind supply chain, which will contribute to the development of middle to long-term local capability in Japan's offshore wind market.  

The agreement between HOM and Cairn Risk is a significant development in the Japanese offshore wind industry, as it brings together expertise and resources to support the sector's growth and operational excellence. This partnership is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of offshore wind energy in Japan, with a focus on sustainability, efficiency, and technological advancement.
