Innogy has submitted a revised project design for the Kaskasi offshore wind farm, located 33km off the coast of Heligoland in the German North Sea. It is seeking authorisation to make various changes to the design, including increasing the wind farm capacity by 17 MW and increasing turbine parameters

Innogy hopes to install 38
SGRE SG 8.0-167 turbines with a rated capacity of 8.6 MW and power boost potential to 9 MW yielding a total capacity of 342 MW. Each turbine will have a rotor diameter of 167m and a hub height of 107.5m. Innogy also hopes to install several turbines with innovative technology such as ‘Vibro & Self Expanding pile shoe’, ‘slotted monopiles,’ and ‘collared monopiles’.

The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) is currently seeking feedback on the revised plan documents and updated Environmental Impact Assessment which will be available for inspection until 25th September.

Innogy currently owns 100% of the project but is reviewing options regarding the future ownership structure. Financial Close is planned for Spring 2020, manufacturing works will also begin in 2020 followed by foundation installation from Q1 2021 and commissioning in 2022.  With average wind speeds of 10.1m/s and water depth of 18-25m, the site was awarded to Innogy in the second German offshore wind auction back in 2018.

The project is in the same grid connection cluster (HelWin2) as Innogy’s Nordsee Ost wind farm, which has been in operation for several years.
