InterConnect Malta announces tenders for major electrical interconnection project

InterConnect Malta (ICM) has announced preliminary information notices (PINs) for two significant tenders related to the 2nd MT-IT Electrical Interconnector project. These tenders aim to enhance the electrical connection between Malta and Italy through substantial infrastructure developments.

The first PIN concerns the manufacture and installation of a submarine 245kV cable with embedded fibre optic cable units and accessories. This project, with an estimated value of €185 million, will bolster the existing electrical interconnection. The deadline for tender requests for this project is July 1, 2024.

The second PIN involves the supply and installation of a 220kV switchgear, fire suppression system, construction of fire walls at Ragusa, and the upgrade of the control system. This tender, estimated at €12 million, will further support the infrastructure of the electrical interconnector. The deadline for these tender requests is August 1, 2024.
Following these PINs, ICM will initiate open-call procedures. Interested parties are encouraged to log in to ICM’s Facebook or LinkedIn pages and register on Malta’s Electronic Procurement Platform for further details on the calls.
