Isle of Man positioned to lead in green energy transition

The Isle of Man is poised to be a global leader in the green energy transition, with abundant wind resources and recent legislative commitments. Through the Climate Change Act and subsequent Climate Change Plan, the Isle of Man sets ambitious yet achievable goals for net-zero emissions by 2050 and 100% renewable electricity generation by 2030.

John Galloway, Ørsted Development Director, emphasizes the transformative potential of renewable energy projects for the Isle of Man. He states: "Renewable energy projects can ensure the Isle of Man’s energy security, create green jobs, and attract long-term investments in the local community."

Historic Success: The Isle of Man's historical success in pioneering innovative industries positions it to lead in the global green energy transition, demonstrating adaptability and innovation for a sustainable future.

Offshore Wind Farm: Ørsted, in collaboration with the Isle of Man Government, is actively working towards the green transition. An Agreement for Lease was signed in 2015, granting Ørsted the right to investigate an area within the Isle of Man Territorial Seas for the potential development of an offshore wind farm.

Community Collaboration: Ørsted is committed to working closely with local stakeholders and communities, ensuring the offshore wind farm is designed and developed in collaboration with the Isle of Man.

Galloway expresses confidence that the project will not only bring green energy independence but also contribute real economic benefits through direct investment, revenue to the government, and community benefit funds supporting local organizations and charities.
As Ørsted develops the islands first offshore wind farm, Galloway underscores the broader impact, stating: "We are helping the Isle of Man play its part in the global fight against climate change. The time is now to be a green energy pioneer."
