Japan seeks developer insights

Japan’s Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, part of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), has released a questionnaire requesting information from offshore stakeholders. Currently, under recent legislation, METI is in the process of selecting ‘promotion areas’, where offshore wind development will be encouraged.

To this end, the agency has requested information from ‘companies planning offshore wind power generation projects throughout Japan’.  METI is specifically looking for developers who have carried out environmental surveys, such as checking wind wave conditions and system status. METI is looking to use any data provided for internal government review and it is to be reviewed by a third party.

The following topics are covered by the request, which opened earlier this month (January 2020): ‘Basic Information,’ ‘System Related,’ ‘Survey Related’, ‘Base Port’, and ‘Land’. METI asks that responses be emailed or posted directly to them, no later than 14th February 2019.
