Milestone achievement in Greater Changhua offshore wind farm

In a significant development, all 111 wind turbines in the first phase of the offshore wind farm located in the southeast and southwest of Greater Changhua have successfully commenced electricity generation. This accomplishment marks a pivotal step forward in Taiwan's renewable energy landscape.

Following the installation of the 111th wind turbine at the end of February, the Ørsted team diligently pursued the final wind turbine trial operation and grid connection. The inaugural phase of the Greater Changhua Wind Farm, boasting a capacity of 900 MW, witnessed the successful generation of electricity from all 111 wind turbines, firmly establishing its position as Taiwan's largest offshore wind farm.

The power generated by these turbines is seamlessly transmitted to the offshore substation via an array of submarine cables, subsequently integrated into the onshore substation and Taipower Power Grid after traversing a total journey of dozens of kilometres. This achievement underscores a significant stride towards achieving renewable energy goals in the region.

As the project advances, the focus will now shift towards completing the final fan tests, propelling the project towards its ultimate completion.

The 605 MW Greater Changhua Southeast Offshore Wind Farm represents a collaborative effort, with Ørsted and international infrastructure investor CDPQ (Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec) each holding a 50% stake. Additionally, the project enjoys participation from the experienced Taiwanese company Cathay Sustainability Private Equity Fund.
