Rovco, a leading provider of offshore wind solutions based in the UK, has been chosen to conduct site characterisation work for the Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind project in the southern North Sea. This project is a joint venture involving TotalEnergies, Corio Generation (a Macquarie Asset Management company), and Gulf Energy Development. Once completed, it will be one of the UK’s largest offshore wind farms with a planned capacity of 1.5 GW.

Rovco’s responsibilities will include a comprehensive geophysical investigation of key sites off the Lincolnshire coast. The work will involve mapping seabed and sub-seabed conditions to identify potential hazards affecting the installation of wind turbines and subsea cables. Additionally, Rovco will conduct benthic environmental surveys to understand and minimise disruption to local wildlife.

The survey will be carried out using Rovco’s vessel, Glomar Supporter, which is equipped with advanced survey technology and an unmanned surface vessel (USV) for simultaneous data collection and rapid processing. The vessel also features a work class ROV for inspection activities.

This project marks a significant milestone for Rovco’s site characterisation business, which launched in 2023. The company has previously completed notable projects, including the Cenos floating offshore wind farm.

Luis McArthur, Survey Manager for Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind, emphasised the importance of this work for designing the wind farm to high standards and advancing environmental stewardship. Craig Davis, Rovco's Director of Site Characterisation, and Graham Bell, Head of Geoscience, both highlighted the critical role of survey work in accelerating offshore wind deployment and their commitment to environmental values.

The Outer Dowsing project aims to enhance the UK's renewable energy capacity, reduce emissions, and improve energy security, contributing significantly to the nation's net-zero goals.
