SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies proudly announce that all 114 Vestas V164-10.0 MW turbines at the 1.1GW Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm, located 27km off the Angus coast in the North Sea's Firth of Forth, are now fully operational. This remarkable achievement marks a significant step towards Scotland's net-zero goals and reinforces the UK's status as a leader in offshore wind energy.

Seagreen, operated from an onshore base at Montrose Port, is not only Scotland's largest wind farm but also the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, with its deepest foundation installed at a record-breaking 58.7 meters below sea level. With a capacity to generate renewable electricity for nearly 1.6 million homes annually, it is set to displace over 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from fossil fuel-generated electricity each year, contributing significantly to Scotland's net-zero ambition by 2045.

Scotland's First Minister, Humza Yousaf, stated, "The Seagreen offshore wind farm is a fantastic example of the work being done to unleash Scotland's renewable potential, as we seek to lead the world in the transition to net zero."

UK Energy Security Secretary, Claire Coutinho, added, "Seagreen will help deliver on our net zero ambitions and provide cheaper, cleaner, and more secure energy around the country."

This joint venture between TotalEnergies (51%) and SSE Renewables (49%) was one of Scotland's largest construction projects, boosting the Scottish economy by over £1 billion during construction and supporting around 4,000 jobs, according to independent analysis published by PwC.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, Chief Executive of SSE plc, emphasized the significance of Seagreen's contribution to energy security and clean energy generation, highlighting the need for more projects like it to fulfill the country's potential.

Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, expressed his delight at Seagreen becoming TotalEnergies' biggest offshore wind farm worldwide, and highlighted its importance in achieving the company's renewable energy objectives.

Seagreen's journey from exclusive development rights in 2010 to becoming fully operational represents a significant milestone in the global offshore wind industry. SSE Renewables, along with partners and contractors, has played a crucial role in making Seagreen a pioneer for future developments in deeper waters.

Going forward, SSE Renewables will operate the offshore wind farm with support from TotalEnergies. The completion of Seagreen ensures its pivotal role in the energy transition and the delivery of clean and green energy to Scottish and UK customers for the next 25-plus years.
