Reports have surfaced that a collision has occurred between wind farm service vessel World Bora and a 81m cargo ship. The incident occurred off the coast of RĂ¼gen coast at around 7:40am this morning (19 February 2019).

The wind farm service vessel, operated by World Marine Offshore, was supporting operations at the
Wikinger offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea at the time of the incident. It was carrying 15 people in total, four crew members and 11 technicians of which nine are employees of Siemens Gamesa (Adwen) and two of Iberdrola. The cargo vessel, MV Raba, was on its way from Copenhagen to Szczecin.

The German Society for Rescue of Shipwrecked (DGzRS) responded to distress calls and escorted the World Bora to the port of Sassnitz where the rescue teams conducted examinations. First aid was administered and the injured were transferred to hospital.

As a result of the collision a total of six people, namely the four crew members and two technicians (one employed by Adwen and one by Iberdrola), sustained injuries and they are currently receiving medical treatment. Iberdrola stated that none of the injuries seem to be life threatening, and it is following up on their condition. Nobody aboard the cargo ship was injured.

The World Bora suffered extensive damage to its port side and was escorted to the port of Sassnitz. The water police Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has started an investigation to determine the cause of accident.
